The Wedge Tail Eagle is Australia’s largest predatory bird. It’s found throughout the continent as well as southern New Guinea and Indonesia. It can have a wingspan of nearly 3 metres but averages 2.5 metres fully grown.

In the past, its been seen as a pest by people on the land and know to take baby lambs so it was hunted and poisoned to virtual extinction. They are now a protected species and their numbers are recovering although its still classified as an endangered species.

Although common throughout Australia, its generally found in woodlands and open country, easier for hunting and typically nests in high trees with a good viewpoint of the surrounding countryside.
