This beautiful creature resides in the tropical and sub-tropical seas of northern Australia. Hunted to virtual extinction for its meat and eggs, it was finally declared a protected species in the early 1970’s.
Although its shell is olive green, gold and brown, it gained its name from the colour of its fat because it was hunted so widely, this became common knowledge. Originally drawn for stickers, I thought the image would make a great print so I finished the image with water and light.
