These iconic world war 2 fighter aircraft battled for superiority in the skies over England in preparation to a German amphibious invasion of the British mainland. The battle was a decisive victory for the British and the subsequent invasion was stopped. The title ’15 Seconds’ refers to the time it takes to empty the Spitfires four browning machine guns from full.
In the illustration I have tried to get the technical details as correct as possible. The models of all aircraft were specific to a time period and during the war, many model advances were made in a very short period of time. I consulted my local RSL (Returned and Services League. A support organisation for men and women who have served (all wars) or are serving in the Defence Force). From there I gained accurate knowledge of the era along with references to design, armaments, livery and specifications of all of the aircraft. The original illustration took me some time to do and I enjoyed doing this drawing and learning about this period of time very much.
